the Village story
We built Adrouny Village Wellness to be what we wished existed in the South Bay
Dr. Melissa Adrouny founded this the Village as a wellness hub and clinic for pregnant, postpartum, perimenopausal people, all phases in between, and their families who needed more than medicine.
More than a waiting room.
More than a 15 minute check up.
A real village of support beyond the four walls of a doctor’s office.
building the Village
How Dr. Melissa Adrouny founded The Village in San Jose, CA
A board-certified OB-GYN who watched her patients struggle. Not from medical complications. From having nobody in their corner.
Dr. Melissa Adrouny spent years delivering babies in San Jose and Los Gatos. Watching brilliant, capable people fall apart in the weeks and months after birth. Not because something went wrong medically. Because they went home to nothing. No village. No real support. Just the weight of a life that had just changed completely.
She had the clinical training. She knew the answers to every medical question her patients brought her. But she kept hitting the same wall: medicine alone was not enough. What her patients needed was education, movement, and community. The kind of support that standard OB-GYN care was never designed to provide.
In January 2023, she made a decision. She transitioned to an educational model of care inside her private practice, Adrouny Women's Health, and began teaching prenatal classes herself.
Her patients started showing up to labor differently. Calmer. More prepared. Nurses noticed. The fear was gone.
That shift became The Village. An ecosystem built on three pillars:
mind, movement & village.
The Seed
A gap becomes impossible to ignore
During residency, Dr. Adrouny begins recognizing the space between what medicine can offer and what people actually need during pregnancy and postpartum. The concept she will later build the Village around starts to take shape.
August 2016
A private OB-GYN practice rooted in whole-person care

A full wellness ecosystem in the South Bay

Not one doctor. A whole village that continues to evolve.
The Village Approach to Supporting Families in San Jose
Three pillars. One commitment.
Every offering at The Village San Jose is built around this framework, designed by Dr. Adrouny to support the full transition, not just the medical moment.
mind
Evidence-based education and nervous system regulation. Because knowing what is actually happening in your body changes everything about how you move through various life stages. No guesswork. No fear-based information. Clinical truth said clearly.
movement
Gentle, functional movement that meets your body where it is right now. Not a fitness class. Not performance. Movement designed to support what your body is already doing, so you can feel more capable, more connected, and more prepared for whatever transition you are in.
Gentle, functional movement built for the body you have right now. Dr. Adrouny is a certified Body Ready Method practitioner. Labor Lounge and Root to Rise were built on BRM principles. This is not a fitness class. It is preparation, designed by an OB-GYN who understands what your body is doing from the inside.
Helping you build a real, sustainable support system in San Jose and the South Bay. The research is clear: isolation has serious consequences. The Village exists to make sure you never navigate a major transition alone. Your people are here.

Midwife & IBCL Lactation

Sarah Fairlight has known what birth could be since she was ten years old.
She witnessed her sister's homebirth at that age, holding her mother's hand, taking in every moment. That experience set her foundation. It put her on the path to midwifery. She has been attending births ever since.
Her mother was involved in their homebirthing community and brought Sarah along to childbirth education classes and women's circles when she was young. There, Sarah learned the value of having a village of supportive people around you during the childbearing years. That lesson never left her.
Sarah spent five years apprenticing and studying toward her CPM credential, then continued on to receive her state license. She carries current NRP and CPR certifications and actively pursues continuing education to stay current on research in the field.
Her dream has always been to create a space. A space for a broader understanding of our bodies. A place where people at all stages feel like they belong. Somewhere to be held during the journey of birth and somewhere to return to when things feel heavy.
That dream fits right in here at the Village.
Midwife
-
Sarah Swanson did not take a straight road to midwifery. She took the real one.
After the birth of her third child in 2004, Sarah entered birth work as a full-spectrum doula. Over the years, she witnessed deep disparities in perinatal care. She knew she wanted to do more. So she went back to school. With her children grown, she made the leap.
In 2023, Sarah graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Midwifery from Midwives College of Utah. She then passed the national NARM exam to become a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) and obtained her California midwifery license (LM) through the Medical Board of California.
She is certified in Neonatal Resuscitation and Basic Life Support, and is currently pursuing a Master's in Midwifery. She also serves as a House Mentor and Adjunct Faculty member at Midwives College of Utah, teaching and mentoring future midwives.
Sarah provides comprehensive reproductive and perinatal care, including well-person visits, prenatal care, labor and birth support, postpartum care, lactation support, and newborn care.
She believes in lifting others up as she goes. That is exactly the kind of practitioner we want here.
Midwife

Charlie Bright is a California Licensed Midwife (LM 668) and Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) practicing right here at the Village.
She grew up in Minnesota's holistic healthcare community. Her mother was deeply committed to natural foods. Her father was a holistic chiropractor and acupuncturist. That upbringing gave Charlie a foundation rooted in whole-person care. Body, mind, and spirit together.
Before midwifery, Charlie spent two decades in information security. She transitioned into EMS work in 2016, then became a doula, and formally entered the midwifery path in 2019. That combination of technical precision and hands-on care is rare. It shows in how she works.
Charlie completed a Bachelor of Science in Midwifery from Midwives College of Utah in 2021 and apprenticed for three years at Casa Natal Birth and Wellness Center. She holds Spinning Babies and Breech Without Borders training, and has also completed coursework in Nutritional Pathology and Functional Medicine.
She believes every family deserves to feel empowered. Not just cared for. Empowered.

My name is Jessica Ignacio—though most people call me Jess. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in California. My own matrescence—my journey into motherhood—has deeply shaped and shifted my clinical passion. As a mother who has navigated a perinatal mental health diagnosis and the work of tending to my own internal parts, I feel a deep commitment to supporting others through this transformative and often overwhelming season. I am especially passionate about increasing awareness around reproductive mental health and the realities many birthing people face without adequate support. I believe that broader systemic and societal pressures have left many parents navigating matrescence in isolation. Providing intentional, compassionate support during this time is not only essential for individual well-being, but also for breaking intergenerational cycles and fostering healthier families and communities.
